Missed it by THAT MUCH
I took my Technicians license test for Ham Radio today.
The test was 35 questions. You could miss up to 9 questions and still pass. I missed 11 questions. I haven't even read the book I bought on the test yet. I just went with a buddy who was taking the Expert license test and he talked me into taking the Tech license test. Hey, I only missed two more than I should have to get the license. I'm pretty sure after reading the book (questions with answers) I will past in the next month or so. It only cost $15 here in Colorado to take the test. And you can take it as often as you need to. Just not more than once per day. So I'll break down and read the book I bought. Then I will retake the test next month. Then into the wide wonderful world of Ham Radio operators I will go. Seems to be a perfect match for my other hobby of collecting military vehicles. Having a ham radio gives me comm's that I would not have otherwise. Especially when SHTF time rolls around. And it wasn't that tough. OK, I didn't QUITE pass the test, but not bad for someone who has NOT had any exposure to the Ham Radio world before now. Oh, and NO MORSE CODE is required any more. Which is why I considered this in the first place. |
Re: Missed it by THAT MUCH
Damn, you were so close!! After going through your book, you will have no problem passing the test. Radios and military vehicles sound like a good combination, especially for SHTF scenarios! Good luck and let us know when you pass.

Re: Missed it by THAT MUCH
Z,
Thx. Yeah, I was talked into it by a buddy of mine. Hey, for $15 the experience was worth that. Now I know what to expect. And I hope to be able to report back on this thread to tell everyone I got my Tech license sometime in the next month. There is a Ham Radio test being given every weekend somewhere along the Rocky Moutain area. There is another Ham Fest up at Jeffco Airport in about three weeks. That's what I'm shooting for. Now I know how Maxwell Smart felt all those years... |
Re: Missed it by THAT MUCH
If TSHTF, no one will be checking if you have a license or not. Just having the radio will be more important.
In the meantime, it's good to be legal. |
Re: Missed it by THAT MUCH
Missed 11? Wallew, study the book, you'll get it. It only costs $15 anywhere in the USA, even in wyoming, imagine that! Here in Louisiana, we had a weekend course and the emergency crew in Houma, LA passed with flying colours and them nurses asked more questions than Carter's got pills.
Hubbies to be indoctornated next week. |
